"DOPPLER" DAVID MADDUX
SENIOR RADIO BROADCAST METEOROLOGIST
THE WEATHER CHANNEL RADIO NETWORK

David Maddux is the senior radio broadcast meteorologist for The Weather Channel Radio Network who will be providing live weather reports for The Long Island Radio Group.

During the tropical storm season, Maddux provided timely updates for WWL 870-AM in New Orleans, WWBA in Tampa, WGNE in Jacksonville, FL, and WTOP-AM 1500 in Washington, DC. His coverage of severe winter weather reached listeners of WVOM in Bongor, ME, and WUCL in Utica, NY. He also provides weather reports for Asheville’s WKSF 99.9 FM, where he has brothers and sisters who can be “pretty tough critics,” he jokes.

As a native of Asheville, NC, and in his travels as a six-year U.S. Air Force veteran, Maddux has been exposed to almost all kinds of weather -- from a youngster in the mountains of western North Carolina wishing for a snow day to 115 degree heat on a tarmac in Texas to the 20 below zero temperatures he experienced in Montana, and typhoons in the Pacific. He has a thorough first-hand understanding of impactful weather.

During his stint in Okinawa Japan, he had a memorable encounter with the power of tropical storms when the island suffered "direct hits" by two typhoons. "We were safe on the base but a lot of the locals were devastated. We spent several weeks following each storm tending to the needs of our off-base neighbors," he said. Maddux also has first hand knowledge of powerful winter storms having "weathered" some rough conditions while stationed in Montana and in Colorado at Buckley Field. All this experience is especially valuable as he prepares weather reports and talks with the on-air hosts on radio programs throughout the country.
Maddux began his broadcasting career in 1992 doing "play-by-play" billiard commentary for AccuStats video productions in Bloomingdale, NJ. In 1997, shortly after attending the Connecticut School of Broadcasting to further hone his radio skills, he joined the team at WSB radio in Atlanta. David joined the radio department of The Weather Channel in March of 2000. He has become an integral part of the "TWCRN Hurricane Team". For the past three years has been the guest of his Louisville affiliate, WVEZ 106.9, during the Kentucky Derby.
Maddux enjoys working in the yard and his hobbies include billiards and motorcycle riding.
