Suffolk County urges residents who have not yet received H1N1 Flu Vaccine to get immunized soon. According to state and local health officials most flu activity occurs from now through March, and the flu season runs until May. Getting vaccinated now will provide protection against H1N1 flu for the rest of the season. The Suffolk County Department of Health Services is offering free H1N1 virus immunization to the public at local clinics. Appointments are not needed. The Long Island Alzheimer’s Foundation in Port Washington focuses on assisting people with Alzheimer’s disease to live their lives to the fullest, while providing respite and supportive services for family caregivers. Their array of programs and services for families living with Alzheimer’s disease includes Creative Expression, which integrates a variety of Eastern and Western artistic and therapeutic modalities – such as tai chi and relaxation/visualization to promote self-expression. Other services include specialized support groups for spousal and adult children caregivers; a small-group brain-training program for individuals with mild cognitive impairment, a socialization and mental stimulation program for those with early-stage Alzheimer’s disease, and a social model adult day program for those with moderate and severe dementia.
